Where is Melinda Gates these days after the recent divorce announcement with her husband Bill Gates? According to media reports, she is holidaying in a piece of Caribbean paradise. She is at Grenada’s Calivigny Island, spending time away from the media glare and holidaying with her kids. The 56-year old American philanthropist and co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have rented the entire island for a staggering bill of $132,000 a night. That’s impressive.

Bill has not been invited to this Caribbean getaway. Her 3 kids are reportedly very angry with their father.

Calivigny Island

Calivigny Island is a private island in Grenada in the Caribbean. The island has its own website, which promises complete privacy for those who can spend a whopping $132,000 a night. Tax is extra. You have to rent the entire island. There is no room or villa booking here for your party.

Melinda, of course, has the money. Bill has recently transferred $1.8 billion in stocks to his estranged wife.

Calivigny Island, Grenada

It’s a year-round tropical paradise. Originally a deserted island, with stunning natural beauty, Calivigny Island is spread out over 80-acres. It can be seen clearly from Grenada’s southern coast. The island is only a 5-minute boat ride from the Maurice Bishop International Airport. Guests can also arrive on the island on their own private yacht. There are two beaches, both offering stunning views. It has one of the most expensive resorts in the world.

Accommodation

There is a Beach House, Overhang, and the Beach Bungalows.

  • The Beach House is grand. It blends Colonial and Balinese styles with elegance. It can sleep 20 guests in the 10 luxury suites. The master bedroom had its own Jacuzzi room. all the suites have designer furniture, en-suite marble bathrooms, and direct garden/ocean views.
  • The Overhang residence has nine suites that accommodate up to 18 guests. The Overhang offers stunning views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea. the guest rooms all have world-class sculpture and art collection, chic and contemporary décor. There is a fresh-water swimming pool on the terrace and also a beach pagoda.
  • There are 3 Beach Bungalows on this private island, all just minutes from the crystal blue water. The bungalows are more intimate. They all have a large terrace and an outdoor Jacuzzi.

Dining

Calivigny Island has many top French chefs who can prepare gourmet, tailor-made adapted to the guests’ taste and diet. All meals are prepared from locally sourced produce. Many gourmet items are available on request. Melinda and her kids can choose from formal or informal dining. They can dine at many indoor and outdoor locations on the island. Cocktails and house wines are included. However, the fine wines come at an extra charge.

We don’t know whether Melinda and her party are asking for fresh seafood or a casual beach barbecue and what they are drinking.

Activities at Calivigny Island

Guests here enjoy the tropical views, wander the tropical gardens, and page through a novel while on a hammock. Water sports include kayaks, windsurfs, catamarans, water-skis, jet-skis, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment. Guests can also go on a fishing trip. Grenada boasts of some of the best game fishing spots in the world. Sports facilities include a tennis court, football field, and an air-conditioned fitness center. There are many activities and games for the kids too.

Calivigny Island employs a team of yoga instructors and massage therapists apart from their Michelin-starred chefs. For special occasions, live entertainment, music, and firework displays are also organized. You can, of course, decide to just relax while on the island.

There are stunning coral reefs all around the island. You have the chance to see many exotic and colorful marine animals. There is shipwreck diving too. The island has its own exclusive website.

How to Reach?

The island is only a 5-minute boat ride from the Grenadine mainland. There are many direct flights from New York, Miami, and London. Many fly to Maurice Bishop International Airport in St George’s and then take a boat from here. The rich and famous arrive in their own private yacht.

Day Trips from Calivigny Island

Go for exclusive day trips to Grenadines and Tobago Cays. The Grenadines are a chain of smaller islands that lie between the islands of Saint Vincent and Grenada. Nine of them are open to the public.
